Cherries originally grew in the regions of Asia Minor, from where they reached Europe as early as the 1st century BC. They belong to the drupe family, with their flesh made up of up to 80% water and fruit sugars when fresh. They are a rich source of minerals and vitamins — magnesium, iodine, silicon, iron, zinc, phosphorus, calcium, and potassium.

Cherries also contain important pigments known as anthocyanins. Like other plant pigments, anthocyanins act as natural antioxidants and help protect blood vessels and the heart from damage.

A flavourful, chewy snack on their own, or a great addition to baking, muesli, and desserts.
